Slow-Cooker Cube Steak

How do y’all feel about Cube Steak?

I know that many of you, myself included, are used to preparing your cubed steak on top of the stove. Coating the steak with flour, frying it in the skillet, and then making gravy from the remnants.  While I don't mind preparing it in this way, I have found that it never comes out as tender as I'd like it to (enter my slow cooker), and that is why I only use my slow cooker now to cook it. Let me tell y’all, you have never had cube steak this tender, and after eating it this way, you will never turn back! I am serious!

The Recipe

2 packs of Cubed steak (about 12 pcs for a family of 4)

1 1/2 cups of All-purpose flour (to batter the meat)

2 cans of Cream of Mushroom Soup

2 packets of Au Jus Gravy

1 sliced onion

4 cans of water (use the soup can)

Steps

Season the meat with the Oregano, and Morton Nature's Season and Seasoning Salt, coat the meat with flour, and then place the meat and onions in a skillet with about 4 tablespoons of cooking oil (I use Canola Oil). Brown the meat (without completely cooking the meat), along with the sliced onion. After the cubed steak has been browned, place it, the onions, and all the dregs from the frying pan into the slow cooker.

Then in a bowl, mix the Au Jus packet, the Cream of Mushroom Soup, and 4 cans of water (2 cans per soup can).  Whip it with a whisk until it is as smooth as it can be, and pour the soup and gravy mixture over the meat in the slow cooker.

FYI

If you are cooking 6 pieces of steak, slow cook it for 4-6 hours depending, and if you are cooking 12-15 pieces of steak, slow cook it for 6-8 hours. Just know that depending on the number of steaks you are cooking, the longer the cooking time.  But trust me, it is all worth it.

This is one of my family’s favorite meals. They get so excited when they know I’m making it. I usually serve it over rice, and pair it with cabbage and corn on the cob. This is one of those wholesome meals that makes you feel loved.
